The Suisgill Estate is one of a very small number of estates which still allow gold panning on their land. If not monitored properly, gold panning can potentially be very destructive to the environment. Ideally everyone should be able to continue this enjoyable hobby on the Kildonan burn, but monitoring the activity takes time and expense. We have amended the pre-existing rules slightly, as these had been blatantly flouted by a significant minority. We therefore felt strongly that the introduction of a fee for permits would help us keep the activity better regulated. Any profits will go towards the upkeep of Kildonan Church.
